Mountain bike in the Andes
(5 days / 4 nights)

We recommend two days predeparture to aclimate. We have the city tour of Cusco Inca arqueological sites. Also the sacred valley of the Incas full day tour

Yet another outstanding way to see the Andes in all their splendorous scenery, people and culture. There exist a multiplicity of trails of varying degrees and multiple options which the local population has blazed and walked for centuries over the ancient topography. This is course gives you the opportunity to “choose your own challenge”; or you can follow one of our pre-designed programs.

We can also link up networks of bike routes which include an assortment of cultural and archaeological features as well as scenic landscape and the presence of some flora and fauna.

Pickup at Hotel in Cusco followed by a one-hour drive southeast. Near the village of Huambutio we reach the beginning of the bike trail which follows along the banks of the sacred Vilcanota River, of mystical significance to the Incas. Pickup at Hotel in Cusco followed by a one-hour drive southeast. Near the village of Huambutio we reach the beginning of the bike trail which follows along the banks of the sacred Vilcanota River, of mystical significance to the Incas. Through this section the trail easy to moderate thus allowing one to become familiarized with the bike and the conditions, up and downs, etc. Altogether we spend six hours biking. Lunch consists of a picnic in the midst of a wonderful natural setting. After bathing in the river we continue biking through the Sacred Valley. In the afternoon, return to our hotel in the valley. Day two: Chinchero, Moray trail
Pick up at the same Valley Hotel and, climbing out of the Sacred Valley of the Incas, drive north to the village of Chinchero, at which point we start our second day’s biking trip. After last minute preparatory details, we start on what is at first a dirt road and eventually becomes a succession of flat, slightly sloping broad plateaus with some ups and downs, eventually reaching the Inca Archaeological Site of Moray with its impressive circular terraces. The served as experimental agricultural installations and we spend 30 minutes hiking around and into them. This is an easy to moderate trail, the biking takes place at altitudes ranging between 9000 to 12000 feet above sea level. In the afternoon, we descend biking into the Sacred Valley where we lodge for the night. Hotel (B, L, D)

After a scenic drive to the top of Malaga pass (15,000 feet above sea level), we encounter our trail head of today’s biking trip. There is a previous practice run before we begin the main trail, after which we plunge down into the altogether different ecosystem of the eastern slope of the Cordillera, rapidly descending from highlands to rain forest and jungle vegetation –a spectacular descent. After lunch, we go own to the town of Santa Maria. In the afternoon we hike to our lodge for overnight accommodation. Hotel (B, L, D)

Day four: Machu Picchu day
Today we ride the train for about one hour and reach the small town of Aguas Calientes (District of Machu Picchu). From here we take a 25 minute bus ride from the valley bottom up to the celebrated Inca Citadel of Machu Picchu. We take a two-hour tour of the site and after that take another two hours to hike a section of the original Inca Road that led top the site.. After lunch, there is free time to relax or perhaps for another spell of hiking. Late afternoon return to the city of Cusco by train (B, L, D) plus hotel.

Today we are off on a good and short trail, which you actually repeat at least a couple of times if you care to, with sections of jumps, small rumps and speed areas. After a full morning, we enjoy a late lunch in town where we finish off today’s biking tour. We will drive from Cusco about 7,30am.We go east south to the beginning of our trail for mountain bike for about 2 hours. Our section today is moderate to semi difficult t. After getting ready all the equipment and our bike .we will begin this incredible descend (about 30 kilometers) on gravel trail with some Incas stone work remains. We will go trough different Interandean valleys for 3 to 4 hours. This trail have different conditions most of the way down it have one inclination of 30 to 15 degrees. We pass through some narrow sections where we need to ride the bike with balance. Also in some section of the trail we will have to used our experience and adapt in order to understand the conditions of the trail going down because in some sections we have stairs and small rocks formation so we will need to use our skills and good equilibrium until we reach the hot springs where we will stop for our picnic lunch and hot springs.. After the bath we will have some more down hill in wide gravel road reaching the town of Calca Late afternoon. After we will continue for one hour to the town of Calca where we will finish. After we will drive to the town of Pisac where we will stay in our bed and breakfast and relax in town at night.

After a full morning, we enjoy a late lunch in town where we finish off today’s biking tour. During the remainder of the afternoon we visit some of the more renowned Archaeological Sites such as Sacsayhuaman and the Temple of the Sun. The rest of the afternoon is free for shopping and loafing around. Hotel (B, L)

    What to bring
    This is a list designed to advise you what equipment is appropriate to bring according to the weather conditions predominating at the time of your trip:

  • Flashlights (at least one headlamp among them)
  • Sun Block; Insect Repellent
  • Towels (Small; cotton and hygienic).
  • Rain Gear (Pants and Jacket) though not necessary during the months of July and August.
  • Socks: Hiking, wool, at least a couple of pairs, perhaps even an extra pair.
  • Sandals for River use (Teva types).
  • Low ankle height hiking shoes or regular hiking boots (check the season).
  • Sneakers.
  • Reading material.
  • Binoculars (always useful regardless of season and activity).
  • Bathing Suit.
  • Water Bottle (I liter capacity).
  • Good Sun glasses, perhaps two sets.
  • A bandana for neck protection.
  • A couple of sets of underwear (perhaps an extra pair).
  • Camera and plenty of film.
  • Passport (plus a couple of Xerox copies).
  • At least one short sleeve shirt and one or two long sleeve shirts (dark colors, depending on the place and destiny chosen).
