The Urubamba River (Rio Urumamba) is a river in Peru. A partially navigable headwater of the Amazon River, it rises in the Andes to the south-east of Cuzco near the Puno Region border ( in a place called La raya pass at 4338mts in beetween the Chimboya snowcapped(5489mts) and the Mosaya snowpeak at 5400mts , where it is called the Vilcanota River (Rio Vilcanota). In the Sacred Valley, between Písac and Ollantaytambo, it is also called the Wilcamayu (sacred river of the Inkas. It flows north-north-east for 724 kilometers before coalescing with the lower Apurímac River to form the Ucayali River.
The Urubamba is divided into Upper Urubamba and Lower Urubamba, the dividing feature being the Pongo(a place where all the river go in to the narrow canyon called El Pongo de Mainique a famous whitewater long section where motor boats croos this sections filled with rapids class I,II,III, in the canyon.
Most of the comercial river trips are found in the upper Urubamband lower Urubamba river.We offer a multiday river trips and one day river trips. We have easy floating trips and demanding riverrafting trips in diferent sections of this mighty and mistical river.
Itinerary
We will drive south out of Cusco city, through farmland and valleys for about 1,30 minutes until we arrive at the small village of Cusipata (“happy place”) in the vicinity of which we will begin our rafting trip.
After the safety instructions and all the gear ready, we put in to the water and paddle for about two hours in class II and III rapids.We will run the introdution rapid which is a class III rapid.Then we begin runing a section of class II rapids untill we reach the Canyon of Cusipata.In this canyon we will find a good rapids
class III. Some sections of waves with some good flat sections of class I and class II. Later we float in the class II rapids with beatifull views of the Vilcanota mountain range.Also there will be a good chance to see some of the flora and fauna of the Andean forest.We cover a distance of 15 kilometers. Afterwards, we take out in a place suitable to change into dry clothes and have lunch, Drive back to Cusco in one hour and a half.

What to bring
This is a list designed to advise you what equipment is appropriate to bring according to the weather conditions predominating at the time of your trip:
Flashlights (at least one headlamp among them).
Sun Block; Insect Repellent.
Towels (Small; cotton and hygienic).
Rain Gear (Pants and Jacket) though not necessary during the months of July and August.
A couple of pairs of socks, perhaps even an extra pair.
One pair of trousers for the evening plus two more pairs for trail use (zipp-offs).
Sandals for River use (Teva types).
Low ankle height hiking shoes or regular hiking boots (check the season).
Reading material.
Binoculars (always useful regardless of season and activity).
Bathing Suit.
Water Bottle (I liter capacity).
Good Sun glasses, perhaps two sets.
A bandana for neck protection.
A couple of sets of underwear (perhaps an extra pair).
Camera and plenty of film.
Passport (plus a couple of Xerox copies).
At least one short sleeve shirt and one or two long sleeve shirts (dark colors, depending on the place and destiny chosen).
A good waterproof jacket.
